We asked our good friend Esther Wu to write about one of her favorite surf spots. Her answer is a description of a true Surf Paradise!
Long days of sun and surf are what images of coastal Southern California bring to mind, but winter waters here are nothing to write home about. Instead, hopping on a short flight south to Mexico brings about a nice reprieve from the unusual cold and gloom.
A true slice of paradise is found in Playa La Saladita in the state of Guerrero where the Pacific water there is warm all year long, and the sun shines just about everyday.
I hesitate to discuss my new favorite paradise where small crowds flock to the point breaks, but I’m not too worried about it. I head a little further over, where perhaps those seeking long waves are avoiding rocky bottoms and a run-in with the rare crocodile looking for a splash in the sea.
The risk is rare and worth it; to sit on my board, chatting with friends, watching sea turtles bob up and down, and having waves to ourselves is an immense privilege.
I can be out there for hours in my Olana bodysuit enjoying the sun and sea before heading back to the beach to grub on shrimp quesadillas, sip on cocos frios, and lounge in my Sandcloud towel.
Can’t wait to be back…
